{"id":893,"date":"2022-05-23T10:11:00","date_gmt":"2022-05-23T10:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/?post_type=news&#038;p=893"},"modified":"2024-03-05T15:46:34","modified_gmt":"2024-03-05T14:46:34","slug":"the-debate-goes-on-liewen-am-minett-revisited","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/news\/the-debate-goes-on-liewen-am-minett-revisited\/","title":{"rendered":"The debate goes on: Liewen am Minett revisited"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\">\n<p>Some 35 years after its appearance, the photo book &#8220;Liewen am Minett&#8221; was once again in the spotlight and the identity and image of the Minett at the centre of discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After two years of pandemic, Forum Z was finally back in an in-person format on 22 May 2022 at the Centre national de l\u2019audiovisuel (CNA) in Dudelange. At the centre of attention was the famous photo book \u201cLiewen am Minett\u201d that documented the Minett region in the late 1980s and sparked a debate about the region\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This book, curated by Jean Back, exhibited photos of 16 amateur and professional photographers. \u201cLiewen am Minett\u201d was arguably the first social photography project in the region which was supposed to document the life in the region during the steel crisis, particularly the life and landscapes that would soon no longer be found. A reader\u2019s letter, published in Tageblatt, complained that the photographers had looked only for the ugly sides of the Minett and that the photos did not really represent the Minett and its inhabitants. This sparked a public debate about the identity of the region and its inhabitants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event opened with the screening of the short documentary \u201cIdentity Disputes: The Image of Life in the Minett\u201d by C\u00b2DH researcher Viktoria Boretska and designer Lars Sch\u00f6nfelder.
