{"id":1609,"date":"2021-12-16T10:47:07","date_gmt":"2021-12-16T10:47:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/website.prod.unilu.spikeseed.cloud\/fr\/news\/uni-lu-simplicity-of-complexity-showcased-at-dubai-world-expo\/"},"modified":"2024-05-13T15:24:51","modified_gmt":"2024-05-13T13:24:51","slug":"uni-lu-simplicity-of-complexity-showcased-at-dubai-world-expo","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fr\/news\/uni-lu-simplicity-of-complexity-showcased-at-dubai-world-expo\/","title":{"rendered":"Uni.lu \u201cSimplicity of Complexity\u201d showcased at Dubai World Expo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\">\n<p>The ±¬ÁϳԹÏÍø\u2019s project \u201cthe simplicity of complexity&nbsp;\u00bb, initiated by the University\u2019s Department of Mathematics, was featured at the Luxembourg\u2019s Pavilion at the Dubai World Expo, from 12 to 17 December 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This event was organised within the <strong>Knowledge &amp; Learning Week<\/strong>, as part of the many activities and events planned at the Luxembourg Pavilion from 1 October 2021 to 25 March 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitors from all over the world were invited to experience \u201cmathematical complexity\u201d in a game-driven universe, by playing a series of fun and engaging games, puzzles and activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201csimplicity of complexity\u201d experience encompasses two types of activities. The \u201cInvolution&nbsp;and Revolution\u201d games are board games created by Bruno Teheux and Hugo Parlier. The Quadratis games, created by Hugo Parlier together with colleagues from Switzerland (see quadratis.app), are a type of slider puzzle to be played on a phone or a tablet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The whole experience was designed by Prof. <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dmath\/people\/hugo_parlier\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Hugo Parlier<\/a> and Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dmath\/people\/bruno_teheux\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bruno Teheux<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwfr.uni.lu\/recherche\/fstm\/dmath\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Mathematics<\/a> of the ±¬ÁϳԹÏÍø and is an invitation to explore the nature of mathematical research. It also built on the recently inaugurated Exploratis station at the Science Center in Differdange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students and faculty members of the Science Department of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sorbonne.ae\/fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi<\/a> contributed to mediate the activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The games workshops were very successful and visitors of all ages were queuing up for a try. The World Expo news TV network approached Prof. Hugo Parlier for a live interview at the TV studios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked why the workshops attracted such a huge audience, Prof. Parlier admitted he was himself surprised by this unanimous enthusiasm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUsually I work with 20-year old students and now I have 5-year old [children] grabbing my leg and saying \u201cI want to play more games!\u201d\u201d, Prof. Parlier told the interviewers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Hugo Parlier demonstrated, live on TV, the two mathematical activities and showed how scientific knowledge is applied to games and fun activities, describing them as \u201cbrain-teasers for all ages\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMath is really all about creativity\u2026.
