Chaque civilisation a tent\u00e9 de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 cette question \u00e0 travers le mythe, la philosophie et la religion. Aujourd&rsquo;hui, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/fstm-en\/people\/massimiliano-esposito\/\">Prof. Massimiliano Esposito<\/a> aborde ce sujet sous l&rsquo;angle de la physique et de la chimie. Il a re\u00e7u l&rsquo;une des bourses de recherche les plus prestigieuses d&rsquo;Europe, l&rsquo;ERC Advanced Grant, pour son projet \u00ab<em> Energy and Self-Organisation in Systems Chemistry: Building the Missing Theory <\/em>\u00bb. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-spacer is-spacer-size-sm\"><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"la-chimie-du-vivant\"\n    >\nLa chimie du vivant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Au c\u0153ur des recherches du Prof. Esposito se trouve une id\u00e9e en apparence simple : les syst\u00e8mes vivants sont, fondamentalement, des r\u00e9seaux de r\u00e9actions chimiques. Chaque battement de c\u0153ur, chaque pens\u00e9e, chaque division cellulaire r\u00e9sulte de de mol\u00e9cules qui r\u00e9agissent, se transforment et \u00e9changent de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie. Mais comment les syst\u00e8mes chimiques ont-ils acquis les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s que nous associons au vivant ? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La g\u00e9n\u00e9tique a montr\u00e9 que toute vie sur Terre descend d&rsquo;un unique organisme ancestral, connu sous le nom de LUCA (<em>Last Universal Common Ancestor<\/em>, ou dernier anc\u00eatre commun universel), qui vivait il y a environ quatre milliards d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es. LUCA \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 un organisme \u00e9volu\u00e9, ce qui laisse supposer qu&rsquo;une longue p\u00e9riode d&rsquo;\u00e9volution chimique l&rsquo;a pr\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9. La mani\u00e8re dont les syst\u00e8mes chimiques ont progressivement acquis les caract\u00e9ristiques du vivant reste l&rsquo;une des grandes questions non r\u00e9solues de la science. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&rsquo;approche du Prof. Esposito est centr\u00e9e sur l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie. Il cherche \u00e0 mettre au jour les principes physiques qui r\u00e9gissent les syst\u00e8mes chimiques continuellement aliment\u00e9s en \u00e9nergie. La mati\u00e8re, livr\u00e9e \u00e0 elle-m\u00eame, d\u00e9rive naturellement vers l&rsquo;\u00e9quilibre : pensez \u00e0 un feu qui s&rsquo;\u00e9teint, ou \u00e0 une tasse de caf\u00e9 chaud qui refroidit. Les syst\u00e8mes vivants font l&rsquo;inverse. Ils consomment en permanence de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie pour rester actifs. Le corps, par exemple, br\u00fble constamment de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie pour maintenir cet \u00e9tat auto-r\u00e9gul\u00e9 que l&rsquo;on appelle la vie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La question est donc la suivante : quels principes fondamentaux permettent \u00e0 la chimie de faire \u00e9merger des comportements propres au vivant ? Y r\u00e9pondre pourrait fournir les bases th\u00e9oriques n\u00e9cessaires pour concevoir des syst\u00e8mes chimiques synth\u00e9tiques toujours plus avanc\u00e9s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"vers-une-theorie-pour-concevoir-des-machines-moleculaires\"\n    >\nVers une th\u00e9orie pour concevoir des machines mol\u00e9culaires<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>De tels r\u00e9sultats pourraient aider les scientifiques \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper des syst\u00e8mes mol\u00e9culaires plus sophistiqu\u00e9s, de minuscules machines capables de consommer de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie et de s&rsquo;auto-r\u00e9guler. Cette capacit\u00e9 ouvre la voie \u00e0 des syst\u00e8mes qui s&rsquo;adaptent, prennent des d\u00e9cisions et accomplissent des t\u00e2ches complexes de mani\u00e8re autonome, avec des applications en m\u00e9decine, biotechnologie et mat\u00e9riaux intelligents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour l&rsquo;heure, la conception de tels syst\u00e8mes rel\u00e8ve encore largement de l&#8217;empirisme. \u00ab <em>Il manque encore un cadre th\u00e9orique g\u00e9n\u00e9ral pour concevoir ce type de syst\u00e8mes.
